Introduction Everyone who uses language makes all kinds of subtle distinctions between different words and their meanings - but subconsciously, and often without being able to explain why. A person who can speak a language has a vast store of meanings in their brain. The present research is an attempt to give some idea of what some meaning patterns are like from the linguistic point of view. Communication brings to people a lot of events. In course of their communication speakers use different words without understanding the meaning of the words, because they do not need it. As the world's global language, English has played a very important role in bringing people from different countries closer and closer, thus providing great mutual understanding. The author argues that the mastering of the semantic structures helps to make the communication in English successful. The study on English words in terms of semantics is, therefore, hoped to be of great value to teachers and learners of English as well as translators into and out of English. Every language always enriches with the appearance of new words and word collocations that make people find the appropriate meaning in discourse. Three disciplines are concerned with the systematic study of 'meaning' in itself: psychology, philosophy and linguistics. Their particular interests and approaches are different, yet each borrows from and contributes to the others. Psychologists are interested in how individual humans learn, how they retain, recall, or lose information; how they classify, make judgments and solve problems-in other words, how the human mind seeks meanings and works with them. Philosophers of language are concerned with how we know, how any particular fact that we know or accept as true is related to other possible facts-what must be antecedent (a presupposition) to that fact and what is a likely consequence, or entailment of it; what statements are mutually contradictory, which sentences express the same meaning in different words, and which are unrelated. Linguists want to understand how the language works. According to I.R. Galperin "linguistics is concerned with identifying the meaningful elements of specific languages . The most complicated lexical unit from the semantical and grammatical points of view is the word.
