1.1 THE CONCEPT OF EQUIVALENCE IN THE MODERN THEORY OF TRANSLATION Different authors often state certain difficulties in the definition of the phenomenon of equivalence. Moreover, they put not absolutely identical contents in this term. The most often used term both in Soviet and foreign translation linguistics is the term "equivalence". Emphasizing heterogeneity of this concept E. Nida allocated two kinds of equivalence: formal and dynamic equivalence. Most of distinctions in terminology are observed at German authors: G. J?ger uses the term Punktinale ?quivalenz - "functional equivalence" , R. J?mpelt defines this phenomenon as Gleichwertigkeit - "equal value (equivalence)" and Prinzip des ?quivalent Effekts - "the principle of equivalent influence" . O. Kade defines this concept as Wahrung der Invarianz auf des Inhaltsebene - "keeping of the invariant maintance". The West German translation researcher W. Wille speaks about Intentionsdequatheit - "adequacy of communicative influence". As in the Soviet translation linguistics the name "equivalence" has become stronger we shall operate with this term. What is the equivalence of translation? Dictionaries of philosophical and logical terms define equivalence as "equal value" or "relations of equality type". However equivalence is not equated with identity which in logical dictionaries is understood as "equality of a subject or a phenomena with themselves", and in philosophy as "a certain case of equality of objects, when coincide not only all the specific categories, but also all their individual properties".
